Going through puberty is a very difficult time. Your body is constantly changing in ways you don't always understand; you might not feel comfortable with yourself. As a result, many teenagers end up with negative self-esteem in regard to their bodies. Which is why it's very important to help your teen understand the importance of healthy eating and exercise. Not only will this help her have a body that she is proud of, but she'll learn healthy habits that will hopefully last a lifetime.
The Ab Diet for Teens
Instead of allowing your teenager to follow an adult weight-loss diet, such as a low-carbohydrate diet, simply encourage your teen to make healthy eating choices at home and at school. Replace beef and pork with lean meats such as chicken and fish. Instead of keeping snacks like cookies and chips in the pantry, stock up on dried fruits and nuts. If your teen only has healthy options, the chances are that he'll get used to eating a healthy diet, and be more likely to make healthy choices when away from home.
The Ab Workout for Teens
Have your teen try the "V-up." This exercise is performed by lying flat on the floor, with your arms raised above your head. Raise your arms and legs into the air as you exhale, concentrating on tightening your abdominal muscles, and touch your fingertips to your toes. Slowly lower your arms and legs to complete one repetition, and keep your back straight throughout. Perform as many repetitions as possible.
Another good abdominal exercise is called the "In-and-Out." This exercise is performed by sitting upright on the floor, with your legs slightly bent and your hands on the floor at your sides. Concentrate on tightening your ab muscles as you pull your legs in, then extend your legs out as you lean slightly back to complete one rep. Keep your feet off the floor and your back straight, and perform as many repetitions as possible.
The Ab Cardio Workout for Teens
It takes more than a healthy diet and regular abdominal exercises to get a great midsection. Educate your teen on the importance of regular cardiovascular activity. Encourage her to get involved in a sport she enjoys, or walk or bike regularly.
If cardio workouts are too tedious, listen to some upbeat music to get your blood pumping. And don't forget to switch it up and try something new to keep it interesting.
