How to Make a Vegan Sports Recovery Drink

How to Make a Vegan Sports Recovery Drink

Following hard exercise with a recovery beverage not only feels great but also provides you with critical nutrients as the body repairs damage done during your workout. Many premixed sports recovery drinks provide these, but they can cost a lot and contain artificial additives such as coloring, sweeteners and/or preservatives. Follow a recipe that provides a whole-foods alternative, one that tastes great and can be made quickly in your kitchen. Those following vegan diets cannot consume milk or whey products--typical in many recovery drink recipes--so a drink made of only plant-based foods is necessary.

Instructions

    1

Cut and core the pear with the knife, and place it in the blender. You can peel the pear if you prefer, but the blender will liquefy the nutritious pear skin if you leave it on.

    2

Peel the banana, chop it into 1-inch pieces and add them to the blender.

    3

Add the hemp protein powder. This powder is a plant-based alternative to regular protein powders.

    4

Add the ground flax seeds. These seeds are rich in protein, fibe and beneficial Omega-3 fats. You can buy ground flax seeds or you can buy them whole and grind them yourself using a seed grinder, coffee grinder or mortar and pestle.

Ginger root also adds a spicy taste kick.

Peel the ginger and grate it using a food grater, then add it to the blender. Ginger has natural anti-inflammatory properties that make it an excellent supplement for a post-workout drink.

Add the water to the blender, then blend all ingredients until you get a smooth, drinkable mixture. This recipe makes about 3 cups, or two 1-1/2 cup servings.
